India has initiated anti-dumping investigations into two Chinese products—nylon filament yarn and trimethyl dihydroquinoline (TDQ). The investigations were triggered by petitions from domestic companies, such as Century Enka Ltd., Gujarat Polyfilms Ltd., and Oriilon India Ltd., for nylon filament yarn, and NOCIL Ltd. for TDQ. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) is looking into whether these cheap imports from China and Vietnam have caused material harm to local industries. If the DGTR finds evidence of harm, it will recommend imposing anti-dumping duties, which are ultimately decided by the finance ministry.
Anti-dumping duties serve as a countermeasure to protect domestic industries from unfair competition arising from low-priced imports. The investigations follow India’s ongoing efforts to address the surge in cheap imports and maintain fair trade practices. The DGTR has launched 43 anti-dumping probes in 2024, with 34 focused on Chinese imports. India continues to take steps to protect local producers from harm caused by inexpensive foreign goods and ensure a level playing field in the market.
