The widespread use of firecrackers has led to a significant spike in air pollution, with particulate matter (PM) levels reaching alarming figures.
Emissions from firecrackers have caused PM 2.5 and PM 10 concentrations to soar, elevating the air quality index to hazardous levels. In particular, areas like Kompally and Somajiguda have been severely impacted, with PM readings nearly 50 times above the safe limit. New Malakpet reported PM concentrations exceeding 250 and 260, while other neighborhoods such as Gachibowli, Kokapet, and Sanathnagar also recorded dangerous levels well above safety thresholds.
The primary culprit behind this drastic decline in air quality is the excessive use of firecrackers during the festival. Continued exposure to these harmful air conditions poses serious respiratory risks for residents, leading to potential complications. Health experts are advising residents to limit outdoor activities and remain indoors to protect themselves from the adverse effects of the pollution.
