The India Open 2025 kicked off at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, showcasing intense matches and some remarkable performances from Indian players. Anupama Upadhyaya triumphed in the opening round, defeating Rakshitha Sree Santosh Ramraj 21-17, 21-18 in a well-contested all-Indian battle. Her consistency and ability to engage in long rallies helped her dominate the match and advance to the second round, where she will face Japan's sixth seed Tomaka Miyazaki. However, young stars Malvika Bansod and Priyanshu Rajawat faced tough competition from higher-ranked opponents. Malvika, after winning the first game, ultimately lost to third-seed Han Yue of China 20-22, 21-16, 21-11, while Rajawat pushed sixth-seed Kodai Naraoka to a decider but went down 21-16, 22-20, 21-13. Despite their losses, both players showed immense promise in their efforts.
On the brighter side, Indian doubles teams had better luck, with Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto advancing in women's doubles after a 21-11, 21-12 victory. The Panda sisters, Rutuparna and Swetaparna, made a thrilling comeback to defeat Thailand's Aiamvareesrisakul and Janpeng 7-21, 21-19, 21-14. In mixed doubles, Ashith Surya and Amruta Pramuthesh also triumphed with a 21-14, 21-15 win over K Tarun and Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli, securing their spot in the next round. Despite the heart-wrenching losses of Malvika and Rajawat, these victories brought some cheer to Indian badminton fans at the India Open.
