Nikki Haley, the two-term governor of South Carolina has announced, on Tuesday, that she is running for USA presidential election 2024.
Nikki is now the first Republican to challenge the former president Donald Trump in the forthcoming presidential election.
She is also the first Indian-American in any presidential cabinet in the USA. She is regarded as one of the most successful Indian-Americans in the history of US politics.
Nikki also has the distinction of being a strong supporter of Indian-American relationships and has actively vouched for the same through multiple forums till now.
She was born in 1972 to Indian Sikh immigrant parents in Bamberg, South Carolina and often calls herself the proud daughter of Indian immigrants.
“Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven out of the last eight presidential elections. This has to change” she said as she called for a generational change.
