Prashant Kishor, the acclaimed political strategist known for his success in shaping electoral victories across India, faced a massive defeat in his home state of Bihar with the debut of his newly formed party, Jan Suraaj. Despite years of experience helping political parties succeed, Kishor’s party made no significant impact in the four constituencies it contested during the recent bypolls in Bihar.
Kishor fielded candidates in Ramgarh, Tarari, Belaganj, and Imamganj, but all four candidates suffered crushing defeats, failing to secure even second place. The BJP triumphed in Ramgarh and Tarari, while JDU and Hindustani Awam Morcha won in Belaganj and Imamganj, respectively. The performance of Jan Suraaj was shocking, with candidates like Sushil Kumar Singh in Ramgarh and Kiran Singh in Tarari securing only a handful of votes, ranking far behind their rivals.
In Ramgarh, Jan Suraaj’s candidate garnered just 6,513 votes, coming in fourth. In Tarari, Kishor's candidate received 5,592 votes, and in Imamganj, Jitendra Paswan managed to secure only the third spot with 37,103 votes. Similarly, Mohammad Amjad in Belaganj received 17,285 votes but failed to place higher than third.
These results came as a huge surprise considering Kishor’s reputation as a skilled strategist. Despite this massive setback, Prashant Kishor remains confident in his party’s future and has expressed his belief that Jan Suraaj will rise to power in Bihar by 2025. To address the current shortcomings, he is actively working on strengthening the party from the grassroots level, aiming to rebuild and recover from this embarrassing electoral performance.
