Raghu Rama Krishnam Raju, the Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, has issued a strong warning to former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, urging him to attend Assembly sessions and participate in public policy debates. RRR stressed that Jagan, as an elected representative of Pulivendula, must fulfill his responsibilities as an MLA and actively engage in legislative proceedings. The Deputy Speaker emphasized that Jagan's presence in the Assembly is necessary for him to effectively represent his constituency and perform his duties.
The Deputy Speaker went further by warning that Jagan Mohan Reddy could face disqualification if he fails to comply with attendance regulations. According to the rules, any MLA who misses more than 60 days of Assembly sessions without prior approval or communication can be disqualified. RRR pointed out that this could result in Jagan's disqualification as the MLA for Pulivendula, potentially triggering a by-election in the constituency.
Jagan’s reluctance to attend Assembly sessions appears to be influenced by fears of confrontations with political opponents, particularly from the NDA camp. It has been speculated that RRR himself could be one of the reasons behind Jagan’s absence. While both Jagan and Chandrababu Naidu have previously skipped Assembly sessions in 2017 and 2022 without facing consequences, RRR's warning suggests that Jagan’s case may not be treated the same way. If action is to be taken, RRR will need to push beyond typical political boundaries to enforce the rules.
