Industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9 at the age of 86, has left behind a heartfelt legacy not only for his family and foundation but also for his beloved dog, Tito. In his will, Tata ensured "unlimited" care for Tito, who was adopted six years ago following the death of his previous dog. Tito will be looked after by Ratan Tata's long-time cook, Rajan Shaw, showcasing Tata's deep affection for animals.
Ratan Tata was well-known for his advocacy for the welfare of stray dogs and his dedication to finding homes for abandoned pets. His estate, valued at over ₹10,000 crore, has been allocated among various beneficiaries, including his foundation, brother Jimmy Tata, half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy, and household staff members.
Significant provisions in Tata's will include arrangements for his close-knit household, such as his long-serving butler Subbiah and executive assistant Shantanu Naidu. Naidu will have his educational expenses covered abroad and has relinquished his stake in Tata’s companionship venture, Goodfellows.
Tata's assets include a 2,000-square-foot beach bungalow in Alibaug, a two-storey residence in Mumbai’s Juhu Tara Road, and fixed deposits exceeding ₹350 crore. Notably, his 0.83% stake in Tata Sons will be transferred to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation (RTEF), continuing the Tata Group's legacy of philanthropy.
The future of Tata's residence, the Halekai house in Colaba, will be decided by Ewart Investments, a subsidiary of Tata Sons. Additionally, Tata's luxury vehicle collection, comprising 20-30 cars, is currently under deliberation for either exhibition at the Tata museum in Pune or auctioning.
