In a recent calamity, a tornado-like phenomenon has wreaked havoc in Telangana’s Medaram-Tadwai forest area, uprooting more than 100,000 trees across 500 acres. The destruction was revealed through drone footage used to assess the scale of the damage. Telangana Minister Seetakka has confirmed that this is the first instance of such extensive devastation in the region, prompting an immediate inquiry into the incident.
Minister Seetakka spoke with forest department officials and announced that an investigation is underway to understand the full impact of the tornado. The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) is preparing a detailed report on the damage. The minister noted that had the tornado struck nearby villages, the consequences could have been dire, potentially leading to loss of life. She attributed the sparing of human lives to the blessings of local forest deities Sammakka and Saralamma.
In response to the disaster, Seetakka has urged Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay to implement special measures to study this rare phenomenon and requested the Centre to allocate funds for reforestation efforts in the Eturunagaram forest. The tornado, with winds reaching speeds of 90 km/h, has left a significant mark on the landscape, highlighting the urgent need for recovery and restoration initiatives.
