In a tragic incident in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, three children have died from suspected food poisoning at an orphanage. The children, identified as Joshua, a first-grader, and Bhavani and Shraddha, both in third grade, fell ill after eating samosas on Sunday. The situation escalated quickly, leading to their deaths on Monday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Anakapalli.
The outbreak of illness affected 27 inmates from the orphanage located in Kailasa town under Kotauratla Mandal. Seven of the affected children were admitted to Narsipatnam Area Hospital, while 17 were taken to Anakapalle Area Hospital. Due to the critical condition of four children, they were subsequently transferred to King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam for advanced care. The orphanage, run by an NGO, has 60 children enrolled in a local government school.
In response to the incident, Anakapalli District Collector K. Vijaya has initiated an investigation and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the affected students. District Education Officer Appa Rao is leading the inquiry, focusing on possible lapses in food preparation. Minister for Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh has expressed his shock and called for vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future. He has also coordinated with Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar and district officials to address the situation.
