According to the study, Texas ranked as the second-most AI-reliant state, with an average of 21.10 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. With its 226 colleges and universities, Texas is home to thousands of students pursuing writing-intensive degrees in fields such as business, healthcare, engineering, and social sciences. However, Texas was not the most AI-dependent state—Mississippi claimed the top spot with 21.46 searches per 100,000 people. Georgia followed closely with 20.79 searches, Louisiana with 19.90, and West Virginia with 19.77.

Other states that showed high levels of AI-assisted essay searches included Florida, Nevada, Hawaii, South Carolina, and New York. These findings highlight a growing trend among students who turn to AI tools for academic writing, potentially reshaping how assignments are completed and evaluated in educational institutions across the country. As AI continues to evolve, it has made writing more accessible for students who struggle with time management, language barriers, or writer’s block. However, this increased reliance also brings to light critical concerns regarding academic integrity, as AI-generated essays may compromise originality and hinder intellectual development.

While AI writing tools offer convenience, educators and academic institutions are beginning to raise alarms about the potential downsides. The primary concern is the loss of critical thinking and analytical skills.
