Blinkit Bengaluru Job Listing Attracts Over 13,000 Applicants in a Day, Shocking Netizens

A recent job listing by Blinkit for a Software Development Engineer position in Bengaluru has created a massive stir online after attracting over 13,451 applicants in just one day. The overwhelming response took social media by storm when a user shared screenshots of the job listing, highlighting the intense competition in the job market. According to the viral post shared on X (formerly Twitter), a significant majority of the applicants — approximately 74% — were entry-level professionals, while 13% of the candidates had senior-level experience. The data further revealed that 86% of the applicants held a bachelor’s degree, while 12% had a master’s degree. The staggering volume of applicants surprised internet users, with many expressing shock over the competitiveness of the current job market. While IndiaToday.in could not independently verify the authenticity of the data shown in the viral post, a LinkedIn search confirmed that the Blinkit job listing does exist. However, the specific data shown in the viral screenshots was not present in the original job listing.

The sheer number of applications triggered mixed reactions on social media. Some users voiced concern over the increasing difficulty of landing a tech job, while others commented on the ease of mass job applications using LinkedIn’s "Easy Apply" feature. One social media user remarked, "This is crazy!", while another commented, "Extreme competition. Break the matrix." Highlighting concerns about the current job market, one user asked, "Is the job market this bad?" Another chimed in, "This is the sad reality of the market right now." Adding humor to the conversation, a user jokingly asked, "Do they decide in 10 minutes?" While many were shocked by the massive number of applications, some shared insights from a recruiter's perspective. One user claimed that such high application counts are common with the "Easy Apply" feature on LinkedIn. They explained that only a small percentage of applicants are genuinely serious about the role, adding that “Not even 5% of these applicants will seriously consider the offer if called for an interview.”

Another user shared their hiring experience, noting that 50% of applicants tend to apply blindly without reviewing the job description. According to their estimate, 30% of candidates lack the required skills, 15% don't respond to interview calls, and 5% reject offers after being selected. The user concluded by saying, "Good luck with the rest." The viral conversation has sparked debate about the growing competitiveness in India’s tech job market, particularly in cities like Bengaluru, known as the country's IT hub. While some view the influx of applicants as a reflection of the booming demand for software engineering roles, others see it as a concerning sign of saturated job opportunities and increased pressure on job seekers. Blinkit’s viral job post reflects the ongoing challenges faced by both recruiters and applicants in India’s fast-evolving job landscape. As competition continues to intensify, job seekers are urged to focus on skills, specialization, and relevant experience to improve their chances of standing out in crowded job listings. Meanwhile, Blinkit may have to adopt a strategy beyond its signature ‘instant delivery’ model to efficiently filter through this overwhelming wave of applicants.
