A new controversy has emerged nearly two decades after the tragic death of popular Kannada actress Soundarya, known for her role in the iconic film 'Sooryavansham'. Allegations have surfaced against veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu, claiming that her untimely death was linked to a long-standing property dispute rather than an accidental plane crash. A recent police complaint filed in Andhra Pradesh’s Khammam district accuses Mohan Babu of being involved in Soundarya’s death, which occurred on April 17, 2004. The complainant, identified as Chittimallu, has alleged that Mohan Babu pressured Soundarya and her brother to sell six acres of land located in Shamshabad village. When the siblings refused to sell the property, tensions escalated between the two parties. According to the complaint, following Soundarya’s death, Mohan Babu allegedly took possession of the disputed land by force.
The complaint further calls for a renewed investigation into the circumstances surrounding Soundarya’s tragic death. Despite the serious accusations, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far, and authorities have yet to confirm any link between the complainant and the two actors. Soundarya, a popular Kannada and Telugu actress, rose to fame for her performances in various blockbuster films. She played the role of Radha in the 1999 film 'Sooryavansham', starring alongside Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. Tragically, Soundarya’s life was cut short in 2004 when the private jet she was traveling in crashed while en route to Karimnagar for a political campaign event. Soundarya’s brother was also on board and died in the same crash. Reports at the time indicated that Soundarya was 31 years old and reportedly pregnant when the incident occurred. Her body could not be recovered from the crash site.
The recent complaint by Chittimallu has reignited speculation about the circumstances behind Soundarya’s death. In addition to requesting a fresh investigation into Mohan Babu’s alleged involvement, the complainant has urged the state government to seize the disputed land. The complaint has been forwarded to the Khammam Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and the District Officer. Chittimallu has also requested police protection, citing threats to his life following his accusations against the influential actor. In his detailed complaint, Chittimallu has also drawn attention to a separate property dispute within Mohan Babu’s own family. The dispute reportedly involved Mohan Babu and his younger son, actor Manchu Manoj. The controversy escalated last year when an enraged Mohan Babu allegedly assaulted a journalist at his residence in response to media coverage of the family feud. While Mohan Babu’s elder son, Manchu Vishnu, later described the incident as a personal family matter that would be resolved soon, concerns over the actor's alleged aggressive behavior have persisted.
The allegations have sparked renewed debate in the Telugu film industry and among fans, many of whom are now questioning the circumstances surrounding Soundarya's death. While the claims remain unverified, the demand for a fresh investigation has placed pressure on law enforcement to revisit the case. As authorities review the complaint, the incident continues to draw public attention, with supporters of Soundarya urging justice for the late actress. Meanwhile, Mohan Babu has yet to respond publicly to the allegations. Investigators are expected to examine historical records and statements to determine if there is sufficient evidence to reopen the case. Soundarya’s untimely death left a lasting impact on the South Indian film industry, where she is remembered as one of the most versatile and beloved actresses. With the recent allegations surfacing nearly 20 years later, the controversy has reignited concerns about unresolved disputes and the complexities surrounding prominent figures in the entertainment industry. Authorities in Andhra Pradesh are currently reviewing the details of the complaint, and further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
