The International Football Federation (FIFA) has suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) after it failed to implement the constitutional amendments required for effective governance in the country. FIFA confirmed that Pakistan would remain suspended until the necessary amendments were made by the PFF congress.
Pakistan football has been under the supervision of a FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee since June 2019, tasked with organizing elections and addressing issues caused by parallel groups within the football setup. However, despite several changes in the committee's leadership, the core issues within the sport have remained unresolved.
The dispute between the Normalisation Committee and the state-run Pakistan Sports Board has resulted in delays in making the required amendments. Earlier this week, the chairman of the Normalisation Committee, Haroon Malik, warned a parliamentary panel that his tenure would end on February 15, and Pakistan risked further suspension if the constitutional changes were not made. Malik also clarified that his term ending did not mean he was seeking a position in the upcoming elections for the PFF.This marks the third suspension for the Pakistan Football Federation since 2017, reflecting ongoing challenges in the country's football governance.
