In a tragic incident on Thursday morning, three workers are feared dead, and nearly 30 others have been injured after a roof slab collapsed at an under-construction cement factory in Panna district, Madhya Pradesh. The roof slab was being laid as part of the construction work at the JK Cement plant when it suddenly gave way, trapping more than 50 workers under the debris. Panna's superintendent of police, Sai Krishna Thota, confirmed that 30 workers have been rushed to hospitals in Panna and Katni for medical treatment, while three bodies have been found under the rubble, still awaiting retrieval.
The incident occurred around 8 am, when the roof slab collapsed unexpectedly. A laborer who was injured in the accident described how the roof fell suddenly, causing chaos at the worksite. Workers who were nearby quickly alerted the factory management, initiating the rescue operation. Injured workers were immediately sent to local hospitals for treatment, while the rescue operation continued to recover those trapped beneath the debris. The State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) has been deployed to assist with the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.
Authorities have confirmed that once the rescue operation is completed, they will begin investigating the cause of the accident. The company, JK Cement, has yet to release an official statement about the incident. Meanwhile, the injured workers are receiving medical care, and the local police are closely monitoring the situation. The factory’s management is expected to cooperate with authorities once the operation concludes to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the roof collapse.
