Telangana has taken a significant lead in river tourism with its long-distance boat services on the Krishna River, operating weekend trips from Somasila in Kollapur to Nagarjunasagar. With a total capacity of 150 passengers, these boats offer a scenic 6-7 hour journey, taking tourists to destinations like Srisailam and providing meals along the way. The boats prioritize safety, including double engines, life jackets, and guides. However, services are suspended during the monsoon season and between April and June due to low water levels.
In contrast, Andhra Pradesh, despite successfully conducting seaplane trials from Vijayawada to Srisailam, has yet to introduce comprehensive long-distance boat services. The state currently offers short-distance boat trips, such as a 16-km journey to Akka Mahadevi Caves and a 20-minute boat ride around the Srisailam Dam. However, the tourism department is working on plans to expand services, though these initiatives are awaiting approval.
Telangana’s river-based tourism has proven popular, with a strong emphasis on safety and an immersive travel experience. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh is still in the planning stages, waiting for necessary approvals and clearances to launch similar boat services that could enhance its tourism potential.
