The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it will not accept the Hybrid Model for the upcoming Champions Trophy, a format that would involve some games being played in India and others in Pakistan. The ICC convened a virtual meeting with executive members to address the scheduling dilemma after India refused to send its team across the border. The PCB has been firm in its opposition to the Hybrid Model, arguing that it would give preferential treatment to India.
Initially, the PCB had been open to the Hybrid Model under the condition that if India did not play in Pakistan, future ICC events in India would also involve Hybrid models, preventing Pakistan from playing in India. The board also raised concerns about the lack of official communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the Indian government's refusal to allow its team to travel to Pakistan. According to ICC regulations, if a team is unable to play in another country due to government restrictions, that board must submit a formal letter from their government.
The PCB highlighted Pakistan’s key role in generating revenue for ICC events through its matches against India, acknowledging the contribution of the BCCI and the Indian market. The timing of the ICC's virtual meeting remains unconfirmed.
