In his address at the IIC-Bruegel annual seminar, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the growing importance of a strong and strategic relationship between India and the European Union, particularly in a world that is increasingly volatile and uncertain. He noted that amidst the ongoing geopolitical challenges, including global conflicts and regional instability, fostering a closer India-EU partnership could play a key role in stabilizing global dynamics. Jaishankar pointed out that the relationship between the two sides, built on shared values of democracy, pluralism, and market economies, is more crucial now than ever before. He also mentioned that despite occasional differences on priorities and specifics, the common interests and values between India and the EU will serve as the foundation for furthering cooperation.
 

The Minister further reflected on the state of global politics, asserting that the traditional world order, which has been in place for decades, is increasingly unraveling. According to Jaishankar, the current global divide—be it North-South or East-West—no longer holds true in an era characterized by stronger nationalism and multipolarity. He described the global shift toward a more multipolar world, suggesting that the time has come for nations to accept this reality and work toward greater cooperation. Jaishankar mentioned that the frameworks that have guided global politics in the past will continue to shape the future, but there will also be a stronger national focus in critical and sensitive areas. He called for honest conversations and a focus on convergence between India and the EU as both sides navigate these changes.
 

Jaishankar concluded by emphasizing that the India-EU relationship has already seen significant progress in areas like defense, security, and technology cooperation. He acknowledged Europe's increasing strategic awakening and how it aligns with India's long-term goals, creating opportunities for deeper engagement. The Minister expressed confidence that, as both sides work together to address evolving global challenges, their partnership will continue to strengthen, expanding areas of collaboration. With this growing cooperation, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of the India-EU alliance in promoting a more stable, balanced, and prosperous future for both regions and the world at large.
