Mexican authorities have started constructing large tent shelters in Ciudad Juarez in anticipation of a possible surge in deportations from the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. The shelters, part of a broader strategy across northern Mexico, aim to accommodate thousands of deported Mexicans, providing them with food, housing, medical care, and assistance with identity documentation.

This move comes as Trump’s administration plans mass deportations, affecting millions of undocumented Mexicans living in the U.S. Many of these individuals come from areas in Mexico plagued by violence and poverty. However, there are concerns from immigration advocates who worry about Mexico's ability to handle the influx, especially as U.S. policies like the end of the CBP One program and the reinstatement of Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) intensify the situation.

The shelters in Ciudad Juarez are being built near the U.S.-Mexico border, and military personnel are assisting with construction. Despite the government’s assurances, challenges such as a sluggish economy and the potential loss of remittances could create economic disruptions across Mexico, particularly in areas dependent on financial support from migrants.
