Ahead of the winter session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a strong attack on Congress, accusing them of disrespecting Parliament and democracy. Speaking to the media, PM Modi pointed out that certain political figures, repeatedly rejected by voters, were attempting to control Parliament through "hooliganism." He emphasized that such actions would be punished by the public when the time comes.
Modi highlighted the importance of Parliament and MPs in the country's democratic system, urging for "healthy discussions" during the session. His remarks came just days after the Maharashtra Assembly elections, where the Opposition's Maha Vikas Aghadi faced a heavy defeat. Modi stressed that the Parliament should be a space for productive debate, where more people contribute.
The Prime Minister also marked the winter session as special due to its significance in the 75th year of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Speculation is rife that the government may introduce the "One Nation One Election" bill, a long-discussed proposal, during the session, which is expected to run until December 20. Other key bills under consideration include the Waqf Amendment Bill, the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, a Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, and amendments to the Railway Act.
