In a concerning escalation of violence, two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh were shot at today in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The police confirmed that both victims, identified as Usman Malik, 20, and Sofiyan, 25, were transported to a local hospital where they were reported to be out of danger. This incident marks the fourth attack on migrant workers in the Kashmir valley in just two weeks, highlighting a troubling trend of violence against laborers in the region.
The most lethal attack in this recent spate occurred on October 20, when terrorists opened fire at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal district, killing seven individuals, including a local doctor and two workers from Bihar. Authorities identified one of the terrorists as a local from Kulgam who had joined a terrorist group earlier in 2023, while the second suspect is believed to have crossed over from Pakistan.
Additionally, reports indicate that the terrorists involved in a recent incident in the Bota Pathri area of Gulmarg had been entrenched in the higher reaches of Afrawat since early August. This incident also resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and two porters, further exacerbating fears over safety in the region.
As violence continues to rise, there are growing concerns regarding the safety of migrant workers in Jammu and Kashmir, who often face risks in conflict-prone areas.
