In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a decisive victory in the Haryana mayoral elections, winning 9 out of 10 mayoral positions in key regions such as Gurugram and Rohtak. The only exception was Manesar, where Dr Inderjit Yadav, an independent candidate and former BJP rebel, claimed victory. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini hailed the party's massive win, calling it a validation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). He described the BJP’s success as a reflection of the public's trust in the party’s governance and its developmental efforts. The election result marks yet another setback for the Congress, which had hoped to regain lost political ground after suffering a disappointing loss in the Haryana Assembly elections last year. Despite making strategic campaign efforts, including deploying leaders like Sachin Pilot and Bhupinder Hooda, the Congress struggled to gain voter support.
 

In the high-profile Gurugram mayoral race, BJP's Raj Rani secured a commanding victory over Congress' Seema Pahuja, winning by a margin of over one lakh votes. Similarly, in Rohtak — known as Bhupinder Hooda’s stronghold — the BJP’s Ram Avtar triumphed with over one lakh votes, defeating Congress’ Surajmal Kiloi by more than 45,000 votes. This result is considered a significant blow to Hooda’s influence in the region.
 

The BJP continued its winning streak in several other key cities:

• Ambala: BJP’s Shailja Sachdeva defeated Congress' Amisha Chawla by 20,487 votes.
• Faridabad: BJP’s Parveen Joshi secured victory over Congress' Lata Rani.
• Hisar: BJP’s Praveen Popli defeated Congress' Krishan Singla.
• Karnal: BJP’s Renu Bala Gupta won against Congress' Manoj Wadhwa.
• Panipat: BJP’s Komal Saini defeated Congress' Savita Garg.
• Sonipat: BJP’s Rajiv Jain triumphed over Congress' Komal Dewan.
• Yamunanagar: BJP’s Suman defeated Congress' Kirna Devi.

The Haryana civic body elections, conducted in major districts such as Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, Yamunanagar, Gurugram, and Manesar, witnessed a notably low voter turnout of just 41%, reportedly a record low compared to the 68% turnout seen in the last Assembly elections. By-polls for mayoral posts in Ambala and Sonipat were also held simultaneously, along with elections for 21 municipal committees across the state. In addition, 26 ward members were elected unopposed in various regions, including notable candidates like Kuldeep Singh (Faridabad), Vikas Yadav (Gurugram), Sankalp Bhandari (Karnal), Sanjeev Kumar Mehta (Karnal), and Bhavna (Yamunanagar). The BJP’s victory in these mayoral elections further consolidates its political dominance in Haryana, reinforcing its stronghold in key regions and boosting its prospects for upcoming state and national elections. Meanwhile, the Congress now faces the challenge of rebuilding its strategy and reconnecting with voters in the state.
