An advocate representing the Federation of Farmers Association in Telangana, D Vijaypal Reddy, has issued a legal notice to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) for not attending the Telangana Assembly in his capacity as the Leader of Opposition (LoP). The notice, drafted by legal consultant Paduri Srinivasa Reddy, states that KCR has failed to fulfill his duties as LoP, a position critical for holding the ruling government accountable and safeguarding public interests.
The position of LoP in Telangana has seen several changes since the state’s formation in 2014. Initially held by Congress MLA Kunduru Jana Reddy, it was later assumed by Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. However, from June 6, 2019, until December 8, 2023, the position remained vacant as no opposition party had the required number of seats. KCR then assumed the role of LoP in December 2023, following BRS's loss in the elections.
The legal notice demands that KCR attend the Assembly and perform his duties properly, questioning his recent absenteeism and stating that the position may become effectively vacant due to his failure to engage in Assembly proceedings. It also calls for an investigation by the Speaker into KCR’s absence and urges either his active participation or a replacement to ensure the role is fulfilled in the public’s best interest, especially concerning the upcoming Assembly budget session.
