In a significant development, the CBI investigation team has arrested four individuals connected to the laddu prasadam adulteration scam. The arrested individuals include Vipin Jain and Pomil Jain, former directors of Bhole Baba Dairy (Roorkee, Uttarakhand), Apoorva Vinay Kant Chawda, CEO of Vaishnavi Dairy (Poonambakkam), and Raju Rajasekharan, MD of AR Dairy (Dundigal).
The accused were arrested under Crime No. 470/24 and produced before the Tirupati court. Investigations revealed numerous violations, including the use of fake documents and seals to manipulate tenders. Vaishnavi Dairy was accused of falsifying records, claiming to supply ghee from Bhole Baba Dairy even though the latter could not meet the demand. The inquiry also uncovered discrepancies in the supply of ghee and false documentation.The probe, carried out by a special investigation team set up by the Supreme Court, involved CBI officials, representatives from the Andhra Pradesh government, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The investigation is ongoing, with more arrests anticipated.
This case emerged after adulterated ingredients were discovered in the Tirumala laddus, sparking a nationwide scandal during the previous government's tenure. The issue prompted the Supreme Court to step in and form a special team to investigate the matter. Further investigation is focused on the TTD's daily use of 15,000 kg of ghee for laddu preparation, as well as discrepancies in the supply contracts. The adulteration was first detected in a lab report dated July 17, 2024, which tested samples from tankers delivered on July 8, 2024.
