On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu introduced a significant initiative under the state's Information Technology (IT) and Global Capability Centers (GCCs) Policy 4.0, with plans to implement work from home (WFH) options on a large scale. This announcement coincided with the ongoing discussions about the 90-hour workweek and aims to offer more flexibility to professionals, especially women, in the workforce.
 

Sharing his vision on social media, the Chief Minister emphasized that the new work-from-home initiative would contribute to a better work-life balance and empower women professionals, particularly in the IT, engineering, and technology sectors. Naidu’s post also celebrated the achievements of women and girls in STEM on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, underscoring his government’s commitment to providing equal access to opportunities in these fields.
 

As part of the new IT & GCC Policy 4.0, the state will encourage the creation of IT office spaces across cities, towns, and mandals, with incentives for developers. The policy also aims to support IT and GCC firms to generate employment at the grassroots level, contributing to economic growth and expanding job opportunities for women.
 

In his announcement, Naidu outlined the potential of flexible work structures like remote work, coworking spaces (CWS), and neighborhood workspaces (NWS), which can help businesses and employees adapt to more productive and adaptable work environments. The initiative is designed to create opportunities for a greater workforce participation by women, particularly by offering flexible, hybrid, and remote work options that reduce commuting and allow for a healthier work-life balance.
