Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington has claimed the top spot as the No. 1 metropolitan area for relocation in 2024, according to U-Haul's Top U.S. Growth Metros and Cities report.
This marks a significant leap for DFW, which climbed eight places from its No. 9 ranking in 2023—a proud achievement for the region.
Sean Fullerton, president of U-Haul Company of South Central Dallas, attributes this surge in migration to the area’s affordability. "The Dallas metro area is experiencing unprecedented growth, both within the city and in suburbs like McKinney, Plano, and Addison," Fullerton noted in a statement. "Job growth has increased wages, and tax incentives have attracted a wave of new residents."
Dallas outperformed other major Texas cities, including Austin, which held steady at No. 5 for the second consecutive year, and Houston, which ranked No. 9.
Another Texas hotspot, College Station, secured the No. 6 position on U-Haul's companion list of top growth cities outside the largest metropolitan areas, maintaining its ranking from last year.
However, Texas was edged out as the leading state for movers in U-Haul's Top Growth States Report, falling to the No. 2 spot as South Carolina claimed the top position for the first time.
U-Haul’s migration report is based on the number of one-way truck, trailer, and U-Box transactions completed by DIY movers across the U.S. and Canada. While these figures don’t directly measure population or economic growth, they offer a unique perspective on which regions are attracting the most newcomers.
