With New Year's Eve celebrations in full swing, cities across India are taking extra precautions to ensure safety and prevent road accidents. Police in major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, and Hyderabad, have issued detailed advisories to discourage drunk driving and manage the heavy traffic expected as partygoers head home late at night. The guidelines aim to ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone, while keeping dangerous driving behaviors in check.
In Mumbai, a large police presence will be seen on the streets, with over 12,000 officers deployed, including senior officials, quick response teams, and riot control units. The police will be setting up checkpoints to identify drunk drivers and step up patrols in crowded areas. In addition to cracking down on drunk driving, authorities will also be on the lookout for troublemakers and anyone harassing women. Delhi Police, known for their creative approach, posted a humorous message on social media, reminding revelers of the consequences of reckless behavior. They jokingly referred to the police crackdown as a “Cell Block Party,” where the “opening performer” would be a breathalyzer, and the “VIP lounge” would be a jail cell for troublemakers.
Similarly, Noida police are conducting patrols and have directed restaurant and pub owners not to exceed their capacity. In cases of drunk driving, the car will be seized in addition to a fine. Meanwhile, Hyderabad police have announced measures to curb traffic violations, including strict enforcement against drunk driving, rash driving, and other dangerous behaviors. With these comprehensive guidelines in place, cities are hoping for a peaceful and safe transition into the New Year for all citizens.
