KPMG has announced plans to integrate agentic AI systems into its operations, marking a significant shift in how the firm delivers services. These AI agents are designed to function as digital colleagues, working across departments such as audit, tax, and advisory to improve productivity, quality control, and client satisfaction. KPMG’s global head of AI, David Rowlands, revealed that the company is working with technology partners to develop these intelligent systems, which will operate independently and without the need for constant human oversight. These AI agents are being designed with both high IQ and EQ, allowing them to understand complex data while also demonstrating emotional intelligence to better engage with clients. According to Rowlands, this agentic AI system will work side-by-side with employees, functioning seamlessly without being limited by silos, politics, or working hours.
 

Unlike traditional chatbots that respond to specific prompts, agentic AI can autonomously complete tasks, make decisions, and adapt to dynamic business needs. This new wave of AI is intended to automate complex processes and revolutionize business operations. IBM explains that agentic AI focuses more on decision-making than content creation and can act proactively without waiting for human input. Early examples include autonomous vehicles, virtual assistants, and task-oriented copilots designed for specific business goals. KPMG’s move to embrace agentic AI is part of a broader trend, with other firms like PwC also exploring similar technologies. PwC’s UK Chief Technology Officer, Umang Paw, confirmed that their company has already introduced AI agents internally to handle data processing and client communications, aiming to improve operational efficiency and customer experiences. As major consulting firms accelerate AI adoption, the technology is poised to significantly impact business strategies and workforce structures.
 

While agentic AI offers improved efficiency and decision-making capabilities, concerns are rising about its impact on human jobs. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently revealed that AI at Meta is now capable of performing tasks equivalent to mid-level software engineers. He predicted that by 2025, AI systems could replace these roles, posing a major shift in how companies manage technical work. Zuckerberg also noted that AI-driven automation could reduce costs since mid-level engineers at Meta currently earn substantial salaries. Similarly, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna predicted that 30% of human resources roles could be replaced by AI within five years, particularly in areas involving repetitive administrative tasks. The growing influence of agentic AI raises questions about workforce stability and adaptation. As KPMG and other leading firms move forward with advanced AI systems, employees will need to develop complementary skills in areas such as strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.
