Before the merger, Dutta held an 80% stake in the company, with Tata Industries owning the remaining 20%. Although Dutta was relatively unknown to the public, he was reportedly close to Ratan Tata and the Tata family, with insiders claiming he had nearly a six-decade-long association with Mr. Tata.
