AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami declared on Sunday that his party would lead a grand alliance in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections to challenge the ruling DMK and ensure electoral victory. Speaking at a public meeting in Vellore district, he dismissed DMK’s claims of ideological unity and emphasized that alliances are formed strategically to consolidate votes.
Despite Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ruling out an alliance, Palaniswami remained confident about building a winning coalition. He also took a strong stance against Chief Minister MK Stalin, criticizing his government’s handling of crimes against women and children, as well as the DMK’s political maneuvering for power.
Palaniswami reaffirmed AIADMK’s opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP) and defended Tamil Nadu’s two-language system. He also called on the DMK-led alliance to push for pending MGNREGA funds in Parliament, urging Tamil Nadu’s 39 MPs to secure the state’s rightful financial support from the Centre. With the 2026 elections approaching, AIADMK is positioning itself as a strong alternative to the DMK government.
