A deadly explosion occurred at an ordnance factory in Bhandara district, near Nagpur, Maharashtra, this morning, resulting in at least eight confirmed deaths. The blast took place in the LTP (Load, Test, and Pack) section of the factory around 10:30 AM, causing significant damage. The impact of the explosion was so severe that it was heard from 5 km away, and a thick plume of smoke was seen rising from the site. The blast led to the collapse of the factory roof, trapping workers inside.
In the aftermath of the explosion, rescue teams quickly rushed to the scene to search for survivors. So far, three workers have been rescued alive, while one worker was found dead. Efforts to remove debris with an excavator are underway in hopes of rescuing the remaining trapped workers. According to District Collector Sanjay Kolte, medical teams and firefighters are working together to manage the situation and provide necessary assistance. The authorities have expressed concern over the severity of the incident, with ongoing rescue operations.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed the deaths and expressed his condolences for the victims. In an online statement, he confirmed that one worker had died and expressed his grief for the families affected. He assured that top officials were at the site, with rescue teams from Nagpur also arriving to help. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated, but it has left the community and officials deeply concerned about industrial safety. Medical teams are on standby to assist with the injured, and authorities continue to closely monitor the situation.
