In preparation for the Mauni Amavasya "Amrit Snan" on Wednesday, authorities managing the Maha Kumbh have issued a comprehensive safety advisory to ensure a smooth and secure experience for the millions of devotees expected to attend. The second Amrit Snan of the Maha Kumbh is anticipated to be one of the largest gatherings of the pilgrimage, and the authorities are taking extensive measures to manage crowd movement and safety.
The fair administration, in collaboration with the police, has enhanced security and crowd-management efforts. Dedicated teams, including fair police officers, traffic personnel, and specialized medical staff, will be on duty around the clock to assist with any emergencies. Senior Superintendent of Police for Mahakumbh Nagar, Rajesh Dwivedi, emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging devotees to remain vigilant, follow the guidelines, and seek help if needed.
Pilgrims are advised to follow specific crowd-management guidelines for their safety. These include using designated lanes to reach the Sangam Ghat, staying in their lanes while approaching the bathing area, and avoiding lingering at the ghats after taking the holy dip. Devotees are also encouraged to promptly leave the ghats and head towards the parking areas or their destinations to maintain the flow of movement.
Additionally, the advisory emphasizes patience at barricades and pontoon bridges, warning against rushing or jostling to prevent accidents. Health and environmental concerns are also addressed, with visitors urged to visit the sector hospitals in case of health-related issues. Eco-friendly materials, such as paper, jute, or clay utensils, are recommended, while plastic items are strongly discouraged.
The administration has reminded devotees that all ghats at the Sangam are equally sacred, urging them to bathe at the first ghat they reach to avoid overcrowding. The advisory also outlines prohibited actions, including stopping in large groups, obstructing movement, and spreading rumors on social media. Pilgrims are reminded to respect crowd-control systems and ignore misleading information about the event.
Mauni Amavasya, a particularly auspicious day based on celestial alignments, attracts the largest number of devotees to the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26.
