Adani Group has issued a statement refuting claims that its 484 MW wind power projects in Sri Lanka, located in Mannar and Pooneryn, have been cancelled. The company clarified that the recent decision by the Sri Lankan Cabinet to reevaluate the tariff approved in May 2024 is part of a routine review process, especially with the new administration in place. The reevaluation aims to align the terms with the country’s evolving energy policies.
The company emphasized its commitment to investing $1 billion in Sri Lanka’s green energy sector, driving both renewable energy growth and economic development. This comes after a report from AFP suggested an investigation into the Adani Group's local projects following scrutiny by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's administration.
In addition to its wind power investments, Adani Group is actively contributing to Sri Lanka's port infrastructure. The $1 billion Colombo terminal project, the largest foreign direct investment in Sri Lanka’s port sector, reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the country.
Furthermore, Adani Green Energy recently reported an 85% rise in net profit for the quarter ending December 31, 2024, marking a significant financial performance boost. The company’s renewable energy capacity also expanded by 37%, bringing its total operational capacity to 11.6 GW. With plans to expand this portfolio to 50 GW by 2030, Adani remains a key player in the renewable energy sector.
