Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan cricket captain, has voiced his support for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in rejecting the hybrid model proposed for the 2024 Champions Trophy, which is set to be held in Pakistan. Afridi criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for mixing politics with sports, pointing out that Pakistan has toured India multiple times despite security concerns, including a white-ball series after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Afridi emphasized that this action by the BCCI has put international cricket in a difficult position and called for the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take a firm stand in ensuring fairness and not allowing political interference in the sport.
The future of the Champions Trophy is uncertain as the BCCI has informed the ICC that India will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament due to restrictions from the Indian government. Meanwhile, the PCB has hesitated to host the entire event in Pakistan, which has led to the current impasse.
