Revanth Reddy Challenges KCR on Telangana’s Debt

The Telangana Legislative Assembly witnessed a heated session during its budget discussions, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy delivering a strong response to criticisms from the opposition, particularly the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Speaking during the motion of thanks to the Governor's address, Revanth Reddy launched a scathing attack on the previous BRS government while also addressing concerns about his frequent visits to Delhi. During his speech, Revanth Reddy openly challenged BRS leaders to debate any topic they desired. He accused the BRS of pushing Telangana into a severe debt crisis during its decade-long tenure. Revanth claimed that the state’s finances were severely mismanaged under the leadership of K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), which has left the government with limited resources to fund new developmental projects.

Revanth Reddy made it clear that he is prepared to discuss the contributions of each political party to Telangana’s growth and demanded that KCR participate in an open debate to clarify the BRS government's financial decisions. He expressed confidence that his government’s achievements would stand out in comparison to those of the previous administration. In response to criticism regarding his frequent visits to Delhi, Revanth Reddy provided detailed reasoning behind his travels. He acknowledged that he had visited the national capital 32 times in the last 15 months. Defending these trips, he stated that his visits were crucial for securing funds, projects, and developmental support for Telangana. Revanth emphasized that his engagement with central government authorities was aimed solely at advancing Telangana’s progress and ensuring the state received its due share of resources. Revanth also dismissed allegations that his Delhi visits were politically motivated or unrelated to governance. He humorously remarked that if required, he would travel to Delhi 300 times to ensure Telangana's welfare. He explained that his primary objective was to lobby for essential projects, investment schemes, and financial aid to benefit the state's development.

During his trips to Delhi, Revanth revealed that he had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on three occasions. He described these meetings as crucial for building Telangana’s development roadmap, emphasizing that Modi, as the country’s Prime Minister, holds the responsibility of supporting all Indian states. Revanth clarified that his political differences with the BJP did not prevent him from engaging with the central government for the betterment of Telangana. He firmly stated that collaborating with the central leadership was a responsible move rather than a political compromise. Revanth Reddy also noted that he met with numerous central ministers, including Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, who are prominent BJP leaders from Telangana. These meetings, he claimed, were essential to ensuring that Telangana’s interests were well-represented in national-level decisions. He provided specific details about the funding and project approvals his government had secured from these discussions.

Addressing concerns from the opposition, Revanth stressed that his focus was on practical governance rather than political conflicts. He acknowledged the BJP’s presence at the central level but maintained that development must transcend political ideologies. He emphasized that seeking support from the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers was a pragmatic step to ensure Telangana’s prosperity. Revanth concluded his speech by confidently asserting that his government’s proactive approach was the correct strategy for Telangana’s future. He maintained that while political differences may exist, cooperation with the central government remains vital for the state's growth and welfare. By challenging KCR for an open debate, Revanth Reddy sought to position his administration as transparent, accountable, and committed to the welfare of Telangana’s citizens. He claimed that the state's economic recovery and development would be achieved through strategic collaboration, effective leadership, and consistent communication with key national decision-makers. The Chief Minister's speech underscored his firm belief that successful governance requires balancing state-level initiatives with active engagement at the national level. His bold challenge to KCR is likely to keep the political landscape in Telangana heated as the state navigates its path forward.
