In a concerning series of events, both an Akasa Air flight and an IndiGo flight received bomb threats on Wednesday, marking the twelfth such incident in just three days. The Akasa Air flight QP 1335, which was bound for Bengaluru and had 177 people on board, including three infants, was forced to return to Delhi. Meanwhile, IndiGo flight 6E 651, traveling from Mumbai to Delhi, was redirected to Ahmedabad, where the aircraft was isolated, and all passengers were safely disembarked.
The spate of bomb threats began on Monday, when three flights received hoax threats: Air India flight AI119 from Mumbai to New York, and two IndiGo flights bound for Muscat and Jeddah. On Tuesday alone, several other flights faced similar threats, including an Air India Delhi-Chicago flight and a Dammam-Lucknow IndiGo flight, among others.
In response to the escalating situation, a Parliamentary Standing Committee convened to discuss the safety of air travel, while Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu held a meeting with ministry and DGCA officials. Reports indicate that some suspects have been identified, and authorities are also monitoring activities on the dark web.
With passenger safety at the forefront, the aviation community and law enforcement agencies are under pressure to address and mitigate these threats effectively.
