The NDA government in Andhra Pradesh is set to revamp the state's road infrastructure, allocating a substantial ₹10,000 crore for new constructions and repairs. This initiative marks a significant shift from the previous YCP regime, which faced criticism for failing to lay new roads and clear contractor dues from 2019 to 2024.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have prioritized road improvements, especially under the Panchayatraj department, addressing extensive damage caused by recent floods. A budget of ₹614 crore has been earmarked for repairing rural roads, with officials estimating that 3,941 kilometers across 2,534 residential areas require new roads, prompting an allocation of ₹3,311 crore.
The government has also identified 162 additional residential areas needing 1,854 kilometers of new roads, with ₹1,900 crore set aside for this purpose. Plans include securing ₹693 crore in loans from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to support the construction of approximately 1,827 kilometers of rural roads.
Panchayatraj officials are preparing to invite tenders for 126 kilometers of new roads, with a dedicated budget of ₹106 crore. In total, 4,635 kilometers of roads require renovation, with an estimated ₹1,122 crore needed for pothole repairs and laying BT roads.
The state's comprehensive strategy aims to spend an additional ₹7,312 crore on 16,627 kilometers of new roads, representing a transformative investment in Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructure. The NDA government's commitment to improving road conditions is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and development across the state.
