The third 'Amrit Snan' of the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj took place on February 3, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami. By 8 am, over 6.22 million devotees had already taken part in the sacred bathing ritual at Triveni Sangam. The event, which started with Naga Sadhus performing the ritual, was marked by spiritual fervor and devotion, as pilgrims from across India gathered to partake in the holy dip.
Basant Panchami is significant for honoring Maa Saraswati, the goddess of learning, music, and the arts. Devotees believe that taking a dip in the Ganges on this day brings blessings. Over 340 million (34 crore) pilgrims have participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela since its commencement on January 13, and more than 1 million Kalpwasis (devotees observing spiritual austerities) have added to the festive atmosphere.
Additional Mela Adhikari Vivek Chaturvedi confirmed the safety measures in place, with proper arrangements for the devotees' comfort and security. The government has also set up the Kumbh Command and Control Centre, which is overseeing operations with over 3,000 CCTV cameras and 30 pontoon bridges to ensure smooth coordination.
The Kumbh Mela 2025 is expected to continue until February 26, attracting millions of devotees globally and setting new records for participation. The festival not only marks a spiritual gathering but also celebrates India's rich cultural and religious heritage.
