Honda has officially filed for patent registration for its new step-through scooter, the Beat, in India. This development follows the company’s earlier patent for the NX125, which shares its engine with the popular Honda Activa. Despite Honda's history of filing patents for various models, including the Forza 350 and CB750 Hornet, many have yet to debut in the Indian market, leaving the arrival of the Beat uncertain.
The Beat features a design that has garnered popularity in Southeast Asian countries, and it is equipped with a comprehensive list of modern features. Highlights include a USB charging port, LED headlamp, combined braking system, anti-theft alarm, and keyless ignition, making it a competitive option for urban commuters.
Under the hood, the Beat is powered by a 109.5 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine sourced from the Activa. It delivers a peak power output of 9 horsepower and a maximum torque of 9.2 Nm, surpassing the Activa's specifications of 7.8 horsepower and 8.9 Nm. Additionally, the Beat boasts an impressive claimed mileage of 58.2 kmpl, appealing to fuel-conscious riders.
Unlike traditional step-through scooters, the Beat features a lower-set spine in the floor area, providing a sporty aesthetic similar to the Yamaha Aerox 155.
