Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned on Sunday, submitting his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan. Singh was accompanied by 14 MLAs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Naga People's Front (NPF), along with BJP state president A Sharda and senior leader Sambit Patra. Following the meeting with the Governor, Singh proceeded to the Chief Minister's secretariat. In his resignation letter, Singh expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Manipur, thanking the central government for its interventions, developmental work, and efforts to safeguard the interests of the people of the state.
Singh’s resignation came just hours after his return from Delhi, where he had been engaged in discussions related to state affairs. On Saturday, Singh had convened a meeting with BJP-led alliance MLAs at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in preparation for the upcoming assembly session, set to begin on February 10. This meeting was convened after the opposition Congress party announced its intention to move a no-confidence motion against Singh’s government. Singh’s resignation appears to be a strategic move in response to this political challenge.
