Lisa Kudrow Remembers Matthew Perry with a Heartfelt Tribute
While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, Lisa Kudrow reflected on a touching memento from her late Friends co-star, Matthew Perry. The actress shared that she recently discovered a note Perry had left inside a cookie jar he gifted her when the sitcom concluded.
“Matthew gave that to me at the end of our last episode,” Kudrow said emotionally. “I had recently found the note that he had in it for me. I hadn’t opened it up or looked inside of it. But yeah, he did. He had a note in there, and I forgot about it.” She added, “Timing is everything,” though she chose not to reveal the note's contents.
The revelation came after Drew Barrymore asked Kudrow if she had ever taken anything from the set of Friends.
Following Perry’s death, Kudrow shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, reflecting on their time together shooting the Friends pilot. “You suggested we play poker AND made it so much fun while we initially bonded. Thank you for that,” she wrote. “Thank you for making me laugh so hard at something you said, that my muscles ached, and tears poured down my face EVERY DAY. Thank you for your open heart in a six-way relationship that required compromise and a lot of ‘talking.’”
She continued, “Thank you for showing up at work when you weren’t well and then being completely brilliant. Thank you for the best 10 years a person gets to have. Thank you for trusting me.”
Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54, with reports confirming high levels of ketamine in his system. Five individuals, including two doctors, Perry’s assistant, a TV producer, and a woman known as Los Angeles’ “Ketamine Queen,” were arrested and charged with supplying the drugs that led to his overdose.
Perry’s mother expressed her satisfaction with the legal actions, saying she was “thrilled” with the criminal cases. His stepfather added, “What I’m hoping, and what I think the agencies involved are hoping, is that people who supply lethal drugs—no matter their professional credentials—are put on notice. You’re goin’ down, baby.”
