The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, has been thrown into turmoil following a crushing defeat in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections, where the party secured only 11 out of 175 seats. This electoral setback, at the hands of the NDA coalition led by Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan, has escalated into an existential crisis for the party, compounded by a series of defections.
Two prominent former MLAs, Avanthi Srinivas and Grandhi Srinivas, resigned from the party, citing personal reasons. Avanthi Srinivas, a former minister in Jagan's cabinet, and Grandhi Srinivas, who had previously defeated Pawan Kalyan in 2019 but faced a humiliating loss in 2024, were among those who left. These defections follow several others in recent months, signaling growing discontent within the party ranks.
The situation worsened further with the news of Dharmana Prasad Rao, a former Revenue Minister and key leader from the Srikakulam district, also set to leave YSRCP. Dharmana, who had not been active since his defeat in the 2024 elections, is expected to follow in the footsteps of other disillusioned leaders like Mopidevi Venkataramana, Alla Nani, Beeda Mastan Rao, and Balineni Srinivas.
This wave of resignations from influential leaders from different regions is a major blow for Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSR Congress. The party, which had hoped to recover from its election defeat and strengthen its position, now faces uncertainty about its future leadership and organizational structure. With three key leaders leaving within hours, this could signal a deeper crisis for YSRCP as it struggles to regain its footing in Andhra Pradesh politics.
