The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recently confirmed the successful repatriation of over 500 Indian nationals who had fallen victim to fake job offers in Myanmar and Thailand. According to the MEA, 266 Indians were repatriated on Tuesday by an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft, following the return of 283 Indians on Monday. These individuals were reportedly rescued from cybercrime scam centres operating along the Myanmar-Thailand border. The MEA, through its spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, acknowledged the efforts of the Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand in coordinating the release and safe return of these individuals. Jaiswal also shared images of the repatriated citizens, reflecting relief and gratitude among those rescued.
 

The MEA revealed that these Indian nationals had been lured with attractive yet fraudulent job offers. Upon arriving in Myanmar and Thailand, they were coerced into working at scam centres where they were forced to engage in illegal cybercrime and fraudulent activities. These operations were reportedly designed to target unsuspecting victims worldwide. The incident highlights the dangers of fraudulent job offers that exploit vulnerable job seekers with promises of lucrative employment overseas. The Indian government had previously issued advisories warning its citizens about the risks associated with these types of scams. The MEA had shared alerts through official channels and social media platforms urging people to be cautious when responding to job opportunities abroad. Despite these warnings, several individuals still fell victim to these fake job rackets.
