Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Prayagraj on Wednesday, marking the auspicious occasions of Magh Ashtami and Bhishma Ashtami. On this significant day, he took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati river. Dressed in a saffron sweatshirt and tracksuit, PM Modi participated in the sacred ritual while holding rudraksha beads and chanting Sanskrit mantras. He later donned a navy blue kurta, a black jacket, and a Himachali woollen cap as he performed aarti at the banks of the Sangam.
Following the ritual bath, PM Modi set out to address a gathering of saints from various akharas, where he was expected to discuss the theme of nation-building. Earlier, he took a boat ride with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Areal Ghat to the Maha Kumbh, where he planned to take a dip at the Sangam Ghat around 11:30 AM.PM Modi arrived at Prayagraj Airport at 10:05 AM and proceeded to Areal Ghat at 10:45 AM. Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, acknowledging the significance of the occasion and urging devotees to follow the guidelines due to the unprecedented number of attendees. Rijiju emphasized the importance of the Maha Kumbh, which occurs only once every 144 years, and expressed his gratitude for experiencing this historic religious moment.February 5 holds special religious significance, as it coincides with Magh Ashtami, Bhishma Ashtami, and Gupt Navratri. Devotees observe fasting and engage in spiritual activities on this day. As of 10 AM, over 10 lakh devotees had already taken the holy dip in the sacred rivers.
