Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has accused Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar of engaging in politics over the controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s claim that Haryana, ruled by the BJP, poisoned the Yamuna water to disrupt Delhi’s water supply. Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal challenged Rajiv Kumar and other Election Commissioners to drink water from bottles containing Yamuna water, which he claims is contaminated with ammonia and chlorine.
Kejriwal’s remarks came after the Election Commission issued a notice asking him to provide evidence and respond to specific questions regarding the contamination claim. The Commission asked Kejriwal to submit factual details by 11 am on Friday, warning of potential action if he failed to comply.
The Delhi Chief Minister further intensified the issue by displaying water bottles mixed with ammonia and chlorine, daring Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to drink them at a press conference. He also claimed that Saini had spat out Yamuna water after tasting it, implying it was dangerous or foul.
Kejriwal’s accusations regarding the contamination stem from his concerns about ammonia levels in the Yamuna water, which he claims reached dangerous levels that could harm public health. He also criticized Saini for avoiding calls related to the issue from Delhi’s Water Minister, Atishi. Kejriwal's challenge and the ongoing dispute with the Election Commission have sparked intense political debate.
