On January 6, 2025, SpaceX successfully launched its first Starlink mission of the year from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The Falcon 9 rocket carried 24 new Starlink satellites into orbit, adding to SpaceX’s expansive satellite network aimed at providing high-speed internet across the globe. This launch highlights SpaceX's ongoing efforts to improve connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
The Falcon 9's first stage completed a flawless landing on the droneship “Just Read the Instructions” in the Atlantic Ocean, marking the 17th successful recovery of this booster. Notably, the booster has previously supported 10 Starlink missions and was also used in the Crew-5 mission to transport astronauts to the International Space Station.
The upper stage of the rocket deployed the 24 satellites into low Earth orbit approximately 65 minutes after liftoff, further expanding the 6,850 active Starlink satellites currently in operation. As the largest satellite network in history, Starlink is poised to revolutionize global communications by delivering fast and reliable internet to even the most remote regions.
This launch adds to SpaceX’s record-breaking achievements in 2024, and the company continues to focus on accelerating the deployment of its satellite constellation, with more launches planned throughout 2025. As SpaceX leads advancements in reusable rocket technology and satellite-based internet, its Starlink project is setting new standards for global connectivity.
