Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamul Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister, has expressed her readiness to take charge of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, the opposition alliance aimed at challenging the BJP in upcoming elections. Senior leaders within the opposition, including Tejashwi Yadav of RJD and Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party, have indicated their support for her bid, though they stress that the decision should be made through consensus among all members of the coalition.
Tejashwi Yadav, speaking in Kolkata, affirmed that while there is no objection to Mamata leading the alliance, it is important for all stakeholders to discuss and decide collectively on the leader. In Mumbai, Sharad Pawar echoed similar sentiments, recognizing Mamata's capabilities and the hard work of the MPs she has sent to Parliament.
The Trinamul Congress has been vocal about Mamata's leadership, with MP Kirti Azad highlighting her track record of defeating the BJP and Modi in multiple elections. Mamata herself has expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc and said she is ready to manage the coalition while continuing her role as Chief Minister of West Bengal.
With the opposition facing recent electoral setbacks, including losses in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra, voices within the coalition are calling for leadership change. Azad emphasized that Mamata Banerjee's experience and success in West Bengal make her the most suitable candidate to lead the I.N.D.I.A. bloc.
