Lilavati Hospital has entered into a strategic partnership with Mayo Clinic USA to develop a 300-bed Cancer Care Institute in Mumbai and a healthcare project in Gift City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The Cancer Care Institute, expected to cost Rs 800 crore, will be situated near Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai. The Maharashtra government has agreed to allocate land at a subsidized rate, and the acquisition process is nearing completion. The hospital is anticipated to begin operations within two years, occupying a built-up area of 3,50,000 square feet. This initiative is projected to create 5,000-6,000 job opportunities for healthcare professionals, researchers, and support staff.
In addition to the Cancer Care Institute, the collaboration includes a Rs 500-crore healthcare project in Gift City, Gujarat. This facility aims to revolutionize Indian healthcare by integrating Mayo Clinic’s renowned expertise and infrastructure. The project is set to be fully operational by December 2025. Furthermore, Lilavati Hospital has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mayo Clinic to enhance nursing standards through the Nursing Excellence Programme, which focuses on the specialized training and development of nursing staff.
The announcement of these initiatives was supported by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who hailed the Cancer Care Institute as a "Health Temple" that will significantly contribute to India’s healthcare ecosystem.
