In a significant gesture underscoring the strong bond between India and the United Arab Emirates, Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Rajghat in New Delhi today. During his visit, he planted an Amaltas (Cassia Fistula) sapling, continuing a unique tradition followed by three generations of UAE leaders. This marks the first time in history that leaders from a single nation have honored Mahatma Gandhi in this manner at Rajghat.
The tradition began with Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, who planted an Amaltas sapling in 1992. His son, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current President of the UAE, continued this practice by planting a Molshri (Mimusops Elengi) sapling in 2016. The visit by Crown Prince Khaled not only continued this tradition but also highlighted the deep-rooted and growing relationship between the two countries.
In addition to his visit to Rajghat, the Crown Prince held discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, leading to multiple agreements in sectors such as nuclear energy, LNG, oil, and food. This visit reflects the strengthened partnership between India and the UAE and the ongoing commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
