At the NVIDIA AI Summit in Mumbai on October 24th, NVIDIA announced a strategic partnership with Reliance Industries to build India’s largest AI infrastructure. The collaboration will leverage NVIDIA’s powerful GB 200 supercomputer to establish scalable AI capabilities. With this move, Reliance aims to revolutionize the AI landscape in India, similar to how Jio transformed mobile data accessibility.
Following Jio’s data success, Mukesh Ambani is now focusing on AI as the next growth frontier for Reliance. At the summit, Ambani detailed plans to use NVIDIA’s advanced technology to create AI infrastructure capable of meeting India’s growing needs and supporting the global AI ecosystem. He highlighted India's potential not only to fulfill domestic demands but also to become a leading exporter of AI services, envisioning “hundreds of millions” of Indians contributing to the worldwide AI market.
The partnership aims to make AI both affordable and accessible across India, mirroring Jio’s impact on mobile data pricing. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang echoed this vision, emphasizing India’s shift from software exports to AI exports. He pointed out India’s unique advantage in the AI sector, noting the country’s data abundance, sophisticated AI models, emerging infrastructure, and a vast user base. Both Ambani and Huang commended Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives in digital transformation, with Ambani expressing optimism about India’s entry into a “new intelligence age.”
The project aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of harnessing India’s data resources and fostering homegrown AI capabilities. Ambani and Huang also discussed the potential of using open-source AI models, like Meta’s Llama, to empower Indian developers in creating AI applications tailored to Indian languages and contexts.
