In a significant move to celebrate the legacy of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, the Government of India is set to launch a nationwide campaign starting April 14. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with MY Bharat Volunteers, is spearheading the initiative that aims to engage the youth in commemorating Ambedkar’s enduring contributions to social justice, democracy, and equality. The campaign will include Jai Bhim Yatras—peaceful processions that will take place in the capitals of all Indian States and Union Territories. These yatras will culminate at statues of Dr Ambedkar, where participants, including thousands of youth and volunteers, will pay floral tributes and pledge their commitment to the values he stood for.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya is set to participate in the yatra at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, while Raksha Khadse will join the event in Mumbai. Other Union ministers will be participating across different states, underlining the central government’s emphasis on nationwide outreach and inclusivity in the campaign.

Reviving Ambedkar’s Message Among the Youth

“This campaign is not just a tribute—it is a movement to help young citizens understand Dr Ambedkar’s pivotal role in shaping modern India and his life-long commitment to equality and justice,” said a senior official from the ministry. The MY Bharat Volunteers will also take the lead in organizing cleanliness drives near Ambedkar statues in various districts and towns on April 14. These drives are intended to reflect the values of civic responsibility and public participation—principles that were close to Ambedkar’s vision of a just and equitable society.

The campaign is part of a broader effort to bridge the youth of India with the country’s foundational democratic values. Government officials emphasized that initiatives like the Jai Bhim Yatra are integral in building a culture of respect for national icons and raising awareness about their lasting influence on Indian society. To build on the momentum of the April 14 campaign, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is also planning a series of summer programmes in May and June, coinciding with school holidays. These programs will focus on leadership development, civic engagement, and historical education.

According to an official, “The summer break offers a unique opportunity to instil values, leadership skills, and civic awareness in our youth. We want young Indians to take pride in our democratic heritage and play an active role in society.” These summer initiatives are expected to include workshops, local tours to historically significant sites, youth-led group discussions, and projects that encourage community participation. The government’s broader aim is to strengthen democratic institutions by investing in the education and involvement of the next generation.

The campaign reflects a strategic cultural outreach effort by the Centre, blending nationalism, historical remembrance, and grassroots engagement.
